ok. time to get ripped. part two.

I had some legit canoli the other day in Little Italy. S and I were wandering about as we do on our days off together when I proposed we invite some gelato before dinner into our evening. And because there was a sign at the gelato shop that said "Best Canoli in Town" we thought, fine. Give us one of those as well.

It's too easy to say yes to food in this city. My conscious eating habits have gone completely idle and never have I ever seen this sweet tooth of mine prosper so shamelessly. It's been nice. Really nice. You bring me much joy, macaroons for breakfast, but alas, these fresh off the fork love handles=not cute.

I'm up 15 pounds now since I arrived in NY, and no, it's not the end of the world or anything. But girls will be girls.

So basically I'm losing my shit a tiny bit, as I struggle to zip up my jeans and convince myself that oversized sweaters are the new sexy.

It's time for some serious Jennifer Lopez in the Enough to go down and I'm committed to making this my number one goal in the coming months. I've let too many emotions and expectations from various things get the best of me lately and I'm done with it all. It's time to toughen up, get moving and figure out how I can integrate my former workout routine here in the city. And yeah-- not eat nearly as many bagels as I have been.

I wanna sign up for a half marathon and get back to running--would love some partners in crime if anyone in the city wants to train together. I think an accountability partner or two would do me some good. So if you're down, let me know, my dears! I'm game, in addition to hearing any suggestions, resources, tips you might have on how to stay fit in the city. Thanksss!

  1. What a good idea: a running partner. We have a club here in WI, online, that matches you up with people: Here's the link for NY: http://www.findrunningpartners.com/running_partner_new%20york_0_1_0_USA_.htm

  2. Cannolis are my weakness. I've decided that it is my civic duty to mail a cannoli to anyone who has never had one.

Also, and this won't help your diet, but Ferrara Bakery & Café in Little Italy is my favorite. I go there every time I'm in the city.

    1. Oh my dear God, they are best things.

And surely, I will find my way to your recommended bakery. Even if it costs me an entire workout.

      Thanks!

  3. I definitely need to start working out as well. Especially with all these Holidays coming up. I always say I'm going to but never do. This time around I hope it sticks. Great blog, love your writing and the way you express yourself. :)

  4. Oh, I can imagine how hard it is to resist all of the deliciousness that New York has to offer: food was a huge part of both of my trips there! Hope you find a running partner soon :)

  6. Mmmm now i want a cannoli.
I would imagine it's a similar feeling to "oh well I'm on vacation" but all the time. When you move somewhere else, it's like you're in an alternate reality at first and you don't have the same worries. Good luck with getting fit!

    1. Yes, Renee, exactly! Totally feels like I'm on an extended vacay of sorts. I keep running into new and delicious looking things and I just don't know how to say no!

  7. I think Kim at Wanderlustee likes to run, and she's in NYC - you should get in touch with her! :)

Plus, ya know, you guys are both awesome and bloggers, so it's sure to be a hit.

  8. Well, I'm not at all in NYC, but I do enjoy the idea of an accountability partner. :) I've done 'runs' with people in other states before. We just coordinate times and pester each other when the time draws near. It isn't exactly the same as running in the flesh, BUT, it is nice to know someone is out at the same time and you can always share a mid way text as well. So, if you ever want to do that, feel free to get ahold of me for sure! knikey15@gmail.com

www.tribesports.com is a great sports site with many physical challenges and TONS of people to get your motivated as well.

  10. Recently found your blog, and you are an amazing writer! I live in Brooklyn and also need to get back into shape. I know the holidays are coming up and things can get crazy, but maybe we could get in a run in at some point. Or if not before, then definitely in the new year!

  11. Wish I were in the city. I would pester you enough until you decided to exercise with me just so I would leave you alone. :) I joke. I don't exercise. I'm like you. Living somewhere new feels like an extended vacay and calories don't count on vacation so... that's a problem. Combine that with eating to solve my problems only creates more that I can fix with a jeans size up. I need to work on this.
